Sim racing FOV calculator

Your field of view is a measurement, not a preference.

Field of view is the angle your screen occupies from where your eyes are, and it goes wrong in both directions. Too wide is the usual mistake, because it shows more and feels faster: everything then sits further away than it really is, so corners arrive sooner than they look. Too narrow magnifies the view instead, and takes the apex and the car alongside you out of frame before you are past either.

Start from a common screen, then measure your own seat:
Corner to corner, one screen.
Printed on the box as 1000R, 1500R and so on.
Measured to the centre screen.
Drag to look around, or use the arrow keys. On a phone, tap it first: it lets you scroll past until you ask it not to, and so does the wheel on a desktop.
Enter the value for your sim. The axis column is why they differ.
SimValueAxisWhere it lives
iRacing 53.0° Horizontal Options, Drive tab. Also `app.ini` in Documents\iRacing.On triples, iRacing wants the centre screen value here, not the three added together. Bezel width and screen angle go in its own triple settings.
Assetto Corsa 31.3° Vertical In car, the on-screen display settings.
Assetto Corsa Competizione 31.3° Vertical Settings, Graphics, FOV. Also under View Settings in the pause menu. The separate FOV offset slider shifts the view without changing the angle, so it does not affect this number.
rFactor 2 31.3° Vertical Options, Display, Field of View.
Le Mans Ultimate 31.3° Vertical Settings, Graphics, Visuals. The setting is named Vertical FOV.A fresh install reads Default rather than a number, which is not the same as correct.

Horizontal 53.0°, vertical 31.3°, for one screen at that distance.

Or work it backwards: where do I sit?

Some sims clamp the value and some sliders stop short. Give it the angle you are stuck with and it says where that angle becomes correct.

Degrees, exactly as the sim shows it.
It decides which axis the number is on.

Your screen and its curvature come from the form above.

The address bar already holds your numbers, so the link works for anyone you send it to.

Worth knowing

Once the view is right

The seat stays done. What does not is everything you open around the sim, so SimLauncher starts your overlays, telemetry and voice comms with the game and closes them afterwards. Free and open source.

Still deciding what to run? The sim racing app index has pricing and a dated development status on every entry, and the ranked iRacing guide is the shorter answer.
